ThrowBack Of The Day: Gwen Guthrie

We trust your weekend went well, but it’s to the old grind again. Here’s the perfect video to keep us focused ladies. No matter how we make our money we should live by the rules of this song. Today’s video comes from amazing singer -songwriter who sang back up for the likes of Steve Wonder, Aretha Franklin and Madonna. A New Jersey native, Gwen Guthrie may be best known for her hit song “Ain’t Nothing Going On But The Rent“. Self written and produced, the song was a ’86 anthem. An AIDS activist she released the single ” Can’t Love You Tonight”. A song boldly addressing the taboo disease in which proceeds of the single were given to the AIDS Coalition. Ms Guthrie would leave us too soon, on February 3, 1999 she died of Uterine Cancer at the age of 48 years old. May your music live on to generations to come.
Tell’em how we really feel…. :-)
